Dear Senator,
My name is Matthew Campbell, a Speech-Language Pathologist in West Virginia. I am writing you with the sole intention of initiating your concern for our low-income, uninsured families of America, and their lack of quality care due to their financial status. Of course, legislature has passed many bills and worked very hard in establishing the ideal healthcare system in America. Yet, from my point of view, it has very many flaws. I see, on a daily basis, clients that are in dire need of clinical intervention for speech and language services, yet turn down our services because of lack of insurance or their financial status.
The sad thing is that you probably get sob stories like this one on a daily basis. However, this story is urging you to push for federal funding for low-income families to receive healthcare services. Continually seeing potential clients turn away from intervention because of its price is not only downhearting, but a serious threat to our economy. For instance, what are the chances that Joe, a decent hard working man who has recently had a TBI and needs outpatient therapy to fully recover, will get a decent paying job to support his family is his speech or some other functional modality is impaired. I would say not very good. Not only is he out of work, but if you do not step up to the plate in Washington and fight for Joe's, and the rest of America's, rights, then that is one less vote for you next election.
Therefore, in conclusion, I urge you and your advisors to look into the matter of some allocation of funds. Even if it is small amounts, we can build on that. I am a firm believer in 100% intervention for everyone who needs it in America, as well as the world. Yet, we will never get there if the proper channels are not primed and ready to fight for what they are in office for...the people that put them in office! Thank you very much for your time.
