This Multigenre Research Project,MRP, was created in compliance with the requirements set forth for the Communication Disorders, CD, 315 class in the summer of 2002. This class is designed to shift from the norms of an everyday classroom and put the student in a virtual environment where he or she can interact with their peers and post their work throughout the semester. All persons represented in this project or their problems are totally fictitious and should not be regarded as actual clients and disorders.

The topic I chose for this MRP is finding out how to provide speech-language intervention, as well as other outpatient services, to those persons who require federal assistance to attain such therapies. During my studies at Marshall, I have learned a great deal about different disorders, possible treatment options and family education. However, the topic of funding for needy patients has never been addressed. Advocacy for funding has always been a true concern in my life and I hope to continue to fight for it during my course of clinical practice.

The MRP requires intricate parts that work together to present the bigger picture, or the main topic. After choosing a topic, I then began research and chose an outline of what I was presenting and how I was going to present it. I used a letter from a senator to tie the whole MRP together and show viewers that the federal government creates a bigger mess when they try to redo healthcare regulations and let the big insurance corporations run their thinking and then prices become outrageous, especially to federally assisted families.

Finally we had to choose six different genres to present our work and in different voices. Three of the genres are pre-determined by our instructor. They are a poem, a webliography and a PowerPoint presentation. The other three I chose were a letter to the editor, a letter to a politician and a brochure. These genres, I feel, can be written in a way as to express the three various views on therapy. The client, clinician and coverer.

I hope you enjoy viewing my MRP and all of the support work included with it. It has truly been an experience I will never forget and I hope others will learn as much, if not more, as I did while reviewing the MRP contents.
